Mercy Home for Children is recruiting for a 20 hours per week Certified Music Therapist to join the Support Program to provide individualized and group music therapy sessions to promote physical, emotional, social and cognitive well-being for our program participants with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Requirements
Plan, implement, and evaluate individualized and group music therapy sessions based on the needs, preferences, and goals of participants with IDD.
Assess the therapeutic needs of individuals, develop appropriate goals, and track progress using a variety of music-based tools and techniques.
Collaborate with other members of the Support Programs team (including direct support staff and program coordinators) to develop personalized therapeutic plans.
Use various musical instruments, vocal practices, and other creative approaches to enhance communication, social skills, self-expression, motor skills, and emotional regulation.
Lead Mercy Home Band and provide concert-like performances for organizational events and fundraisers.
Foster a safe and inclusive environment where participants feel comfortable and empowered to express themselves through music.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of therapy sessions, progress, and any changes in the participant's needs or behavior.
Provide education and guidance to staff and caregivers on how to incorporate music and musical activities into daily routines.
Participate in team meetings, workshops, and training to stay current with best practices in music therapy and IDD care.
Ensure all activities are in line with state and federal regulations and best practices in the care of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Qualifications: BA degree is required, MA is preferred in music therapy, and/or performance arts.
Board Certified Music Therapist certification is preferred. Prior experience with IDD population in a therapeutic or caregiving role is preferred. Strong knowledge of music therapy techniques and the ability to adapt/modify therapeutic approaches to meet the individuals needs. Valid NYS driver's license is preferred to have the ability to travel to the various 13 locations in NYC. Hourly rate is $28-$34.
